The required volume depends on material bulk density, batch weight, filling ratio and the mixing principle of the selected machine. A mixer should not normally be filled to its total geometric volume because sufficient space is required for material movement and effective mixing. For this reason, selecting a mixer based only on vessel volume can result in an unsuitable configuration.

Vortex Ribbon introduces some new features on its ribbon blender models including low-maintenance silicone gasket, custom bag dump station with safety grating, big flap opening for quick agitator removal, vacuum and pressure-rated blenders with reinforced troughs, heavy-duty models for dense materials, bottom discharge extruder assembly and end wall scrapers.
Many solid-solid and solid-liquid applications rely on the batch ribbon blender for fast, straightforward, and reliable mixing. Vortex ribbon blender are commonly used for blending dry powders, granules, pellets and other solid forms. They also function as paste mixer, vacuum dryers and granulators. Vortex ribbon blender mixes product within a U-shaped trough via a horizontal agitator with inner and outer helical ribbons precisely pitched to move materials in a well-balanced axial and radial flow pattern. Tightly controlled clearances between the trough surfaces and agitator tips ensure fast and thorough mixing.
Pictured is ribbon blender with total volume of 5000L. Big flap opening which includes a “600*600mm” inlet port with perforated safety grating is supplied for opening and ingredient charging and pneumatic operated flap valve is equipped for products discharging. The solid ribbon agitator shaft is designed for center discharge. Scarpers welded to the ribbon ends hold a tight clearance with the trough walls. Product contact parts of this ribbon blender all stainless steel 304 are mirror polished. As is standard on all vortex ribbon blender, this machine is directly driven by an gearmotor. Compared to old belt-driven and chain-driven designs which suffer from losses in horsepower and efficiency through slippage, direct-driven ribbon blenders are more reliable, delivering better performance and requiring less maintenance.
